Evidencia científica de la eficacia de Garcinia Cambogia en la pérdida de peso

Resumen

Dada la creciente introducción en el mercado de suplementos dietéticos para la pérdida de peso, es fundamental verificar la evidencia de la eficacia de estos productos para reducir el peso. Entre los diversos principios activos de origen natural utilizados como auxiliares para la pérdida de peso se encuentra el ácido hidroxicítrico (HCA), extraído de la corteza de la Garcinia Cambogia (GC). Se realizó una revisión de la literatura publicada hasta el 2019 sobre este tema, con el fin de verificar con qué evidencia científica se cuenta. Se siguió el método PRISMA. Se encontraron un total de 531 artículos, de los cuales 498 en la base de datos Pubmed, 17 en Lilacs y 16 en Scielo. De estos, solo 36 artículos se incluyeron en la revisión, de los cuales 20 se realizaron en animales, 5 in vitro y 11 en ensayos clínicos en humanos. La gran mayoría de los estudios en animales informaron diferencias estadísticamente significativas en el peso, la ingesta de energía y la masa grasa. En la mayoría de los estudios in vitro se ha demostrado el efecto antiadipogénico de los GC. A su vez, la gran mayoría de los ensayos clínicos en humanos no lograron probar la efectividad de los GC en la pérdida de peso, reducción de masa grasa, consumo de energía, entre otros indicadores. Estos resultados dan fe de la importancia de realizar más estudios en humanos para esclarecer la asociación de GC con el control de peso.
