Prevalence of dumping syndrome in women submitted to bypass in y de roux
Abstract
The objective of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of Dumping Syndrome in women who were operated through the method of Roux-en-Y gastric by-pass. Retrospective and analytical study accomplished at a specialized obesity surgery clinic in Brasília-DF. A sample of 49 women after a year of undertaking bariatric surgery. The analyzed elements were weight (kg), body mass index (kg/m2), % of Preoperative weight loss and Postoperative weight loss. The Sigstad scoring criteria was used to evaluate the prevalence of Dumping Syndrome. We observed the average age 43,9 ± 10,7 years old, % of Preoperative weight loss 67,68 ± 27,8, Preoperative body mass index 38,95 ± 3,6 kg/m2 and Postoperative body mass 28,45 ± 4,29 kg/m2. From those women, 55,1% (n= 27) presented Dumper and had a Preoperative body mass index 38,87 ± 4,05 kg/m2, Postoperative body mass 27,68 ± 4,59 kg/m2, % Preoperative weight loss 76,5 ± 28,6. The Non-Dumper group presented Preoperative body mass index 39,12 ± 3,08 kg/m2, Postoperative body mass 29,79 ± 3,77 kg/m2 and Preoperative weight loss 56,9 ± 23,79. In the Dumper group, it was noticed a meaningful reduction of the Postoperative body mass (w = 0,04) and % of Preoperative weight loss (w = 0,006) when compared to the Non Dumper group. The most prevalent symptoms were wish to lay down or sit down 70,37% (n=19) and sweating 55,55% (n=15). The prevalence of Dumping among women that took the bariatric surgery was elevated, with predominance of the following symptoms: wish to lay down or sit down and sweating.
