Reduction of edema by the administration of chestnut and hibiscus in patients that make treatment with corticoides
Abstract
Introduction: An increased liquid volume in the interstitium characterizes the edema. Patients who use glucocorticoids for an extended time develop edema. Glucocorticoids alter the renin-angiotensin system which causes sodium retention. The Chestnut-of-India has therapeutic action to venous insufficiency and capillary fragility. Possibly relieve swelling has anti-inflammatory action. The Hibiscus (Hibiscus sabdariffa.L) has diuretic, laxative, stomachic, soothing, antiscorbutic, anti-hypertensive, bile duct, cholesterol reducer. Objectives: The objectives of this review were to evaluate studies using these herbal medicines, Chestnut-of-India and Hibiscus, and evaluate their effects on adjuvant treatment for weight loss and reduction of fluid retention in people who use glicocorticoides. Methods: We searched periodicals of electronic databases Google scholar, PubMed, virtual Library on health (BVS) Scientific electronic Online Libary (Scielo), capes MEC periodic Portal. Results: 6 clinical studies were synthesized that showed satisfactory effects in vitro, in vivo in animals and humans to the Chestnut-of-India herbal and Hibiscus to reduce edema. Conclusion: These two herbal are an alternative for treating patients who have edematous symptoms.
