Abstract

The aim of this paper is to determine the prevalence of obesity and associated co-morbidities of individuals seen in the outpatient department, nutritional section of the Hospital dos Servidores do Estado (HSE). Two hundred and eighty seven volunteers of both sexes were treated on this outpatient department, with ages varying between twenty and eighty years, during the period from January to June of 2006, with a body mass index (BMI) ≥ 25 kg/m². It was used the measure of the circunference of the waist to calculate the risk degree of the associated co-morbidities. There was a prevalence of women in the group of patients and there was no significative difference in the BMI between the gender. From the 287 volunteers, 43,10% presented only with obesity; 31,4% obesity and systemic arterial hypertension (SAH); 10,5% obesity and dislipidemics and 15% obesity, SAH and dislipidemics
