The influence of resistance training variables in reducing body weight in obese and overweight: a systematic review
Abstract
The aim of this study was to demonstrate, through a systematic review, the influence of resistance training on the variables of weight reduction in people with obesity and overweight. Center -Register of Controlled Trials and Lilacs search for descriptors obesity and weight loss associated with the descriptor of strength resistance training in Medline, Central data were used. All selected studies were experimental, with adults of both sexes, obese and/or overweight, between the years 2010 and 2013. Altogether, 10 studies were analyzed and all of them underwent interventions including diet with caloric restriction and resistance training. It was concluded that resistance training appears to be an effective strategy for reducing anthropometric and body fat in a weight loss program, when combined with nutritional counseling. Although not contemplate the purpose of this study, analysis of selected studies seems to show in resistance training an important ally in the reduction of other cardiovascular risk factors other than the reduction of anthropometric measures with positive responses on variables such as body composition, lipid profile, blood pressure, insulin sensitivity and lipoprotein oxidation.
