Adherence and retention in programs of physical activity in the town of Amargosa -Bahia
Abstract
The aim of this paper is to demonstrate the profile of adhesion and permanence of women aged 54-80 years, practitioners of a physical activity program in Amargosa -Bahia. For data collection, carried out a descriptive study using a questionnaire, adapted social profile proposed by Fiamoncini.The data indicated that most participants (79.17%) joined the activity for aesthetic reasons and the main reason which led them to stay (54.19%) was the improved qualityof life and health. The physical benefit showed as the most relevant, acquired through physical exercise, was the improvement of general health (62.52%) and participation in the program provided in the body changes as more willing (66.69%) and well-being feeling. The results indicate that participation in physical activity program improves the elder’s quality of life, because an active lifestyle is primordial to preserving the health, to the maintenance of functional capacity and independence of these individuals.
