Breastfeeding protector of obesity as a factor
Abstract
Introduction: Obesity is considered a global epidemic and its prevalence in children and adolescents is increasing in recent decades. Several studies have sought to link obesity with environmental variables that influence the lives of children. Among these is breastfeeding, which has been described To systematize the articles that aims to breastfeeding as a protective factor for overweight and obesity. Review of the Literature: Through systematic review in the databases were selected from CAPES scientific papers published between 2001 and 2010. We excluded review articles, case reports, associated diseases and studies whose aim was not breastfeeding as a protective factor in obesity. A total of eight articles were analyzed, and all authors have found breastfeeding as a protective factor in obesity. The duration of breastfeeding was also considered by most studies, suggesting that the mere fact that the child had been breastfed, regardlessof the duration of protection is already showing results, however, the longer, more protection there is. Conclusions: It can be concluded that, besides the already known benefits that breastfeeding provides, you can add protection against overweight and obesity throughout childhood, but for deeper understanding the mechanisms of action should be studied further.
