Effects of resveratrol ingestion in mitigating damage from metabolic syndrome: an integrative review
Abstract
Metabolic syndrome represents a highly prevalent pathological condition worldwide, characterized by a combination of chronic metabolic changes that substantially increase health risks for the population. In this scenario, the search for effective treatment and prevention strategies becomes crucial. The aim of this study was to gather evidence on the therapeutic potential of resveratrol in the management of metabolic syndrome through an integrative review. The results of this review indicated that resveratrol shows promising effects in the treatment of metabolic syndrome. The analyzed studies revealed improvements in various aspects of the condition, including glycemic and lipid profiles, reduction in inflammatory and hepatic markers, as well as favorable changes in anthropometric factors. Furthermore, a positive influence on nutrigenetic modulation was observed, suggesting that resveratrol may interact with genes related to metabolic syndrome. Although the results are encouraging, it is important to emphasize the need for additional investigations in various contexts. More comprehensive and randomized studies are required to confirm and deepen our understanding of the benefits of resveratrol in the treatment of metabolic syndrome. However, based on the available evidence so far, resveratrol represents a promising non-pharmacological therapeutic alternative for mitigating the harms associated with this globally concerning health condition.
