Body composition and prevalence of eutrophic obese syndrome in patients at a nutrition outpatient
Abstract
A Normal-Weight Obesity Syndrome (NWO), it is characterized by a clinical condition in which the individual has an adequate body mass index (BMI), but has a high percentage of body fat (%BF). The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of NOS in adults and elderly individuals assisted by a nutrition outpatient clinic and their changes in body composition. It was a quantitative, cross-sectional study, with secondary analysis, through nutritional anamneses. The results indicated that 97.3% were adults and 2.6% elderly, with a higher prevalence of females (78%). Among the pathologies present, 3.8% had diabetes mellitus, 15.1% arterial hypertension (HAS) and 16.7% dyslipidemia. The risk for cardiovascular disease (DCV) was low in 84.4% of the sample. The risk for cardiovascular disease (DCV) was low in 84.4% of the sample. With regard to nutritional status, 2.2% of participants were underweight, 35.5% eutrophic and 62.4% overweight. The %BF was excessive in 53.8%. NOS was identified in 5.4% of individuals and the practice of physical activity in 58.6%. It was concluded that the body composition of individuals was characterized by high BMI and % BF, with low prevalence of NWO. This result may have occurred due to the characteristics of the public assisted by the Clinic-School of Nutrition, who usually already have some altered health and weight condition, that is, with altered BMI.
