Conservative non-pharmacological intervention strategies in overweight and obesity individuals during the pandemic caused by covid-19: a systematic review
Abstract
Introduction: Individuals with overweight (57.25%) and obesity (22.35%) in Brazil are the population at highest risk of acquiring and developing the most severe form of Covid-19. Objective: To present the conservative non-pharmacological intervention strategies used with overweight and obese individuals during Covid-19. Materials and methods: As outcomes, we investigated the effect of these interventions on aspects such as body mass, physical activity level, quality of life, emotional factors (anxiety and depression), sleep, eating habits, and social relationship. Searches in PubMed, Scopus, Scielo, Pedro, and VHL databases were performed, including intervention studies. Results: Among the 4 studies selected for the review, 3 were considered to have good methodological quality. Two studies were rated with low and one with high risk of bias. Three studies have level II of evidence. Conclusion: Despite few selected studies, the presented conservative non-pharmacological interventions, in-person or remote, brought significant benefits regarding body weight loss, increased muscle strength and physical activity level, and improved eating habits in the investigated population.
