Abstract

Orthorexia Nervosa is a pathological fixation with consumption of foods considered "healthy". Dietitians and nutrition students have been identified as risk groups because they study and deal with processes involving diet and health. In order to verify the association between nutrition and orthorexia nervosa, it was sought to review studies investigating orthorexia nervosa in nutrition students and dietitians. The publications were searched in the Pubmed, SciELO, Lilacs, and Google Scholar databases between October and December 2018. The English terms used in the search were orthorexia nervosa, students, and dietitians, as well as their correspondents in Portuguese. A total of 20 articles were included, ranging from 82 to 1029 subjects, in which the prevalence of orthorexia in dietitians and nutrition students ranged from 3.40 to 94.69%, the majority (70.0%) being measured by Orthorexia Nervosa 15 Questionnaire. Most of the studies found higher prevalences of orthorexia nervosa among those attending nutrition when compared to subjects from other areas. The results show a wide variation regarding the characterization of orthorexia nervosa and a high prevalence of this condition. It is hoped to encourage reflection about nutrition training, especially the view that the professional builds about healthy diet.
