Quality of life of patients submitted to bariatric surgery: systematic review
Abstract
Introduction: Obesity and its comorbidities are a public health problem, not only due to the clinical complications, but also the psychological, social and economic commitment. Bariatric surgery is indicated in bariatric surgery with indication of prolonged weight loss, aiming to reduce the duration of life, improve the quality of life of patients. This work has as guiding question to elaborate a systematic study focusing on quality of life in patients with bariatric surgery. Materiais and Methods: PubMed, SciELO, LILACS, Bireme, Capes, Scopus. Using the Medical Subject Heading Terms (MeSH) were the search terms: [("Patient") and ("bariatric surgery") and ("postoperative care" or "postoperative" OR "Post- and ("Quality of life")]. Results and Discussion: They were active in 1220 articles. Using the PRISMA criteria, nine studies previous to eligibility standards were left at the end of the selection. Clinical outcomes were evaluated to evaluate post-bariatric quality of life, with positive results regarding physiology and decision-making ability. Conclusion: To observe that there are comparable data that make it measurable the positive impact on quality of life and survival undergoing bariatric surgery, due to the benefits of weight loss and reversion of comorbidities. Regardless of the postoperative technique, the studies demonstrated improvement of the patient, both in the physical and in the psychological aspect, emphasizing the physiological aspect.
