Analysis of body composition in musculation practicers introduced to low carb hypocaloric diet
Abstract
Introduction: Diets with caloric and glycemic restriction are efficient in weight loss and improvement of altered markers in overweight or obese individuals. Objective: To analyze body composition in bodybuilders introduced to the low-calorie Low Carb diet. Materials and methods: Retrospective analytical study, carried out at a Nutrition practice in São Luis, Maranhão, Brazil, from August to October 2018. We included men and women over 18 years old, bodybuilding practitioners, under low-calorie low carb diet plan. Anamnesis Sheets and the Fine Shape program were used, which investigated sociodemographic, anthropometric, clinical, body composition and dietary data. Data were tabulated in Microsoft Office Excel® and analyzed using the statistical program SPSS 21.0®. For comparison of numerical variables, the paired t test was used. Results and discussion: Study obtained a sample of 60 participants; predominantly women (85%) aged 31 to 40 years (38.3%), without comorbidities (91.7%), non-smokers (100%) and alcoholics (53.3%). There was a significant change (p <0.05) in body composition and anthropometry; weight reduction (-2.5 kg), BMI (-0.9 kg / m²) fat (-2.5%) and muscle mass increase (+1.2%). Therefore, this study showed weight loss and muscle mass gain through caloric glycid restriction resulting in the improvement of biochemical markers. Conclusion: A diet with caloric glycid restriction combined with weight training was effective in improving the anthropometric parameters and body composition evaluated, a fact that favors the physiological condition, avoiding acute and chronic pathological conditions.
