Post-bariatric surgery pregnancy: psychological and psychiatric aspects described by healthcare professionals
Abstract
Obesity is a chronic disease related to excess fat accumulation in adipose tissue, considered a risk factor for other diseases, such as hypertension and diabetes. Among the treatments for obesity are bariatric surgery (BS), whose number has increased significantly in recent years. In spite of being efficient for the treatment of organic diseases, CB causes self-image disturbances, and it is possible to observe the occurrence of psychological complications frequently. Based on this, the objective of this study was to describe the presence of reports by health professionals about the occurrence of signs and symptoms specific to depressive, anxiety and eating disorders in pregnant women with BS history. This was a descriptive and retrospective study with data obtained through consultation of the multi-professional records of 42 pregnant women and postpartum women with BS attended by the prenatal unit of the Maternidade Escola da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, from 2015 to 2018. Data were separated in sociodemographic, psychosocial and clinical variables; indicators of the presence of depressive, anxiety and eating disorders during pregnancy and / or puerperium; and psychological aspects related to gestation after BS. As main results, it was observed that 73% of the patients presented symptoms of depressive, anxiety and / or eating disorder. We conclude the importance of the recognition of signs and symptoms of psychic alterations for psychological and psychiatric follow-up in prenatal care for pregnant women with CB history.
