Intuitive eating approach compared to traditional weight loss programs in weight loss and health outcomes
Abstract
Intuitive eating comes as a new approach to weight loss programs. Objective: To verify whether the intuitive eating approach promotes greater weight loss and improves health outcomes compared to traditional slimming programs. Materials and methods: An integrative review was carried out in Pubmed and Web of Science databases in June 2018, with no limit of publication date and English language. Only randomized clinical trials with comparison between groups using an intuitive eating method and a traditional diet approach were selected. Results: The clinical trials were with obese individuals, all studies the traditional approach of diet promoted greater weight loss, but the intuitive eating obtained better results in nutritional and metabolic components. Conclusion: Intuitive feeding supports various health benefits, which are achievable and sustainable in the long run, even in the absence of weight loss. Should be encouraged as part of the interventions for weight loss in individuals with BMI 30 kg/m2
